grace glides on blistered feet.
except, if you arent a ballerina..
or cant dance well
there is no grace.
so basically..
you get blistered feet
for no reason
and for no results.
pointless.

she shouts across the room to the exhausted dancers
they dragged unwillingly to their bags
pulling out those torturous shoes.
after the long barre exercises
the centre tendus and grand battement
the tiring adages
the heavy lifts of legs
the dizzy spins of pirouettes
the muliple turns of fouettes
the poses and shanes across the room
the peti allegrothe turning souttes
the big glisads and assembles
the big grand jetes
the beats and jumps of brises
the last big centre exercise pushing the dancers to their limits.
then it all ends
and whats more?
pointe work.

she squeezed her foot into the tiny narrow wooden shoes
quashing every single toe into the 6cm wide toe shoes
folding the ends into her heel
she fits the shoe perfectly hugging her feet like socks

irony.
that hard dirty bulky shoe wrapping around her feet described like soft comfortable socks.
this simple juxtaposition seen in every performance by a dancer
painful and torturous but seen as light and beautiful.
graceful and absolutely stunning shadowing over the excruciating stabs at her feet.

her hand takes the soft pink nylon ribbons
and wraps it around her ankle
around and roundround and round
ending with a small knot tucked in neatly so neatly no one can see that pigtail.

up she stands, walking slowly to the cold long barre
she touches the metal like holding her best friends hand
and lightly transfers her weight over to the reliable supporter.
she rises up onto her toes
onto the platform of the pointe shoeswith straightened knees and stretched feet

her muscles tense up, emphasizing and lining every single muscle of her leg with a long seam following up
the rotated thighs all the way to those turned out hips
creating a big dimple right at the ends of her lengthy gorgeous legs
tracing to the top of her hip
forming a wonderful extension seperating her long legs and her lean body.
her torsil over her leg tucked into her body forming an almost straight lineweight lifted and on her toes
tummy flattened with her abs lifted
waistline as small as possible
chest relaxed ribcage down
all the way up to her neck longer than ever
with her head tilted and placed and just a right position
eyes looking through the walls
sharp nose pointing towards her natural angelic smile
her cheeks rosy and pink her hair pulled back into a bun
ending with her eye lashes curling up into the teachers eyes.
